How to use this page

The color of the launch ramps on the
Google map give a rough idea of the
restrictions likely at that site. Green
indicates that all-trailerable boats
should be able to be launched. Yellow
indicates only moderatly sized center-
boardboats may be capable of launching,
while red indicates more severe
restrictions. Clicking on the indicators
will give more info on the ramp and allow
for directions to be obtained.

Lake Type: River-fed / Lake Chain
Area: 644 acres
Lake Orient.: Northeast - Southwest
Max. Depth: 84 ft
Notes: This pear shaped lake serves as a downstream repository of a chain of lakes on the Huron River and is located in both Washtenaw and Livingston counties. Public access to the lake can be made via a (DNR) ramp located on McGregor Road just north of  Dexter Pinckney Road (indicated on the following Google map). The public access ramp is on a short channel with a moderate current. Current proceeds under a bridge which is too low for masts. Sailboat launching is possible, however a kicker motor (or strong paddling) may be needed to clear the channel (about 100 ft) into the lake. A boadwalk and short pier are available for tying off. During weekends in the summer months, the parking lot fills very early in the day. When the parking is full, the ramp generally becomes gated to bar additional entry.

The lake serves as the home waters of the Portage Lake Yacht Club  which holds a weekly club racing series (Flying Scots / Interlakes) in the Spring/Summer.  A sailing supply store (Midwest Sailing) is in the immediate area off of Dexter-Pinckney Road (across from the Portage Lake Yacht Club).

June 1, 2010 - Boat: Mutineer

Boat launch is located in a small village with food and a chandlery nearby. Access to the ramp is barred when the parking lot is full.
