ABOUT THIS PAGE - The color of the launch ramps on the Google map gives a rough idea (based on DNR criteria) of the restrictions likely at that site. Green indicates that all-trailerable (<26') boats should be able to be launched. Note: This DNR determination is likely geared toward motorboats and not sailboats drafting over 3 feet. Yellow indicates only moderately sized center-board boats may be capable of launching, while red indicates more severe restrictions. Clicking on the indicators will give more info on the ramp and allow for directions to be obtained.

Lake Access & the DNR Passport

Most Michigan DNR ramps require access fees. These fees are waived for Michigan residents who have selected the Passport option during their vehicle license renewal. SailMichigan highly recommends this option. Out of state visitors can access these ramps for an $8 daily fee or a $29 annual fee. These "visitor passports" may be purchased at any state park or online.

Lake Type: Kettle / Glacial
Area: 265 acres
Lake Orient.: Northwest - Southeast
Max. Depth: 45 ft
Notes: Reeds Lake is located in city of East Grand Rapids. Affluent estates are perched on the hillsides surrounding this lake. The active Grand Rapids Yacht Club (est. 1931) is located on the west shore. Also on the west shore is the city owned "Collins Park". This 2.7 acre grassy park with modern toilets and plenty of park benches is a nice place to watch the sailing regattas on summer weekends. A hard surfaced boat launch is located in this park. It has a single-lane with two piers but no beach area and no proper set-up area. Parking is available only on the street of Lakeside Dr and it is often difficult to find a spot that will accomadate a vehicle with a trailer. The lake itself is deep and wide enough for some good daysailing. Be mindful of a sunken island toward the northern shore. Water clarity is not always great. Restaurants in all price ranges are located within walking distance of Collins Park and the launch ramp.

April 28, 2011 - Boat: Hobie Holder 14 - monohull

There is often a lot of sailboat activity on the lake thanks to the popular yacht club.
