Lake Access & the DNR Passport

Most Michigan DNR ramps require access fees. These fees are waived for Michigan residents who have selected the Passport option during their vehicle license renewal. SailMichigan highly recommends this option. Out of state visitors can access these ramps for an $8 daily fee or a $31 annual fee. These annual "visitor passports" may be purchased online or at any state park.

Notes:

Lake Saint Clair is a large (approximately 430 sq miles) but relatively shallow lake, with an average depth of ~11 feet. Although not technically a "Great Lake", through the connecting Saint Clair and Detroit rivers, the lake connects Lake Huron to Lake Erie. Sailing Lake Saint Clair should be considered the same as Great Lakes sailing, with all the associated joys and hazards. Additional ramps (not on the map below)  are cataloged under Saint Clair and Macomb Counties. More complete information on Lake Saint Clair can be found on our lake specific Great Lakes Page. Lake Saint Clair has a large sailing presence owing to its size and the presence of multiple yacht clubs. including the Bayview Yacht Club, which coordinates the annual Port Huron to Mackinac race. A NOAA navigational map booklet for this region can be downloaded by clicking on the "Michigan DNR map" button below.
