How to use this page

The color of the launch ramps on the
Google map give a rough idea of the
restrictions likely at that site. Green
indicates that all-trailerable boats
should be able to be launched. Yellow
indicates only moderatly sized center-

Lake Type: Kettle / Glacial
Area: 107 acres
Lake Orient.: East-West
Max. Depth: 54 ft
Notes: Bishop Lake is a no-wake lake located within the Brighton Recreation Area (camping, trails, and swimming).  The public boat ramp for this lake is located within the Bishop Lake Campground (5210 Bishop Lake Road, Brighton, MI) and is indicated on the following Google map. The boat launch area is of moderate size, but adequate for small boat set-up. Power lines run over the top of the launch site, however they are approximately 60 feet in elevation. Keep an eye on them, but they are not likely to present a problem. A vault toilet is available at the site.

The sailable area of the lake is about 1/2 of the total reported surface area. This is due to very dense weeds and shallow waters to the west of the boat launch. This basically creates only 50+/- acrea of area. This area may still be adequate for single person dagger-board / single-sail craft (i.e. Sunfish, Zuma, Laser). Centerboard boats are not recommended for this lake, especially if  larger than 15'. The lake is boarderd by a campground, swimming and fishing areas which provide activities for family members. Although the lake is not a sailing destination, if you plan on camping in the Brighton State Recreation Area for other reasons, you may want to consider bringing your daggerboard boat.» Download Michigan DNR Map

June 1, 2010 - Boat: Mutineer

Sail area is very limited on this lake. Only small boats are suggested. Weekends and holidays are likely to be crowded.

July 3, 2010 - Boat:

i don't have a legit boat, but i go swimming frequently and kayaking sometimes, and it's always a wonderful experience.
