In a state with a strong maritime tradition, many Michigan colleges & universities have sailing clubs and/or collegiate teams. Collegiate fleets generally sail Flying Junior and 420 class boats and compete through the Midwest Collegiate Sailing Association (a division of the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association). Many university-affiliated sailing clubs also offer sailing opportunities and instruction to their alumni, as well as the general public.
