Yacht Clubs
Along the Great Lakes and on many larger inland lakes are a variety of yacht clubs offering sailing instuction and activities, with many also providing a selection of social and dining opportunities. Many clubs have permenant facilities/piers and cater to both power and sail craft. Addtional club activties can include club regatta (racing) series, sailing seminars, youth sailing programs and distance sail outings. Among the yacht clubs in Michigan, the Detroit Yacht Club, established in 1868, is one of the oldest in the nation.In addtion to typical yacht clubs, Michigan is home to numerous sailing clubs and sailing associations. Unlike yacht clubs, sailing clubs generally have smaller facilities (or none at all) and accordingly have membership fees that are relatively inexpensive. These clubs focus predominantly on sailing instruction, community outreach, and sailing commraderie.
