Notes:

Located west of Mears, MI in Oceana, County, Silver lake is small kettle lake adjacent to Lake Michigan. The lake has a unique feature of a large sand dune which occupies its western shore. Most of the lake's shoreline is developed, however approximately a third is comprised of Silver Lake State Park.

October 11, 2017 - Boat: 1971 Sunfish

I have never seen a lake like this one. It is shrinking by about 3 feet every year as the massive sand dunes at the W end of the lake march eastward. The W end of the lake drops off quickly. Conversely, the E end of the lake is very shallow for a distance (due to the constantly blowing sand). As a result the DNR launch at the SE end of the lake has a narrow channel going out into the lake, being very shallow on either side. You need to keep your daggerboard up until you get out. The views of the dunes are amazing. You can beach your boat at the dunes and hike up them for an amazing view. This lake is probably only good for Hobie Cats or small sailboats.
