Michigan Collegiate Sailing
In a state with a strong maritime tradition, many Michigan colleges & universities have sailing clubs and/or collegiate teams. Most of these teams are members of the Midwest Collegiate Sailing Association (a division of the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association of North America) and compete principally in Flying Junior and 420 class boats. With the exception of large universities which have their own sailing facilities (i.e. University of Michigan), several clubs are supported by (or affiliated with) area yacht clubs; Adrian College/Clark Lake Yacht Club, Hope College/Macatawa Bay Yacht Club, Western Michigan University/Gull Lake Yacht club, Michigan State/Lansing Sailing Club. Because of the academic calendar, collegiate teams generally compete from Sept-Nov. and then again from Feb-May. Note that February/March regattas are not held in the Midwest!
