Adaptive Sailing

Adaptive Sailing Programs in MichiganAdaptive sailing programs allow disabled sailors to re-enjoy, or newly experience, the fun of sailing. Using specially designed boats which have greater stability and modified controls, these programs provide unique opportunities for kids and adults alike.

Because of the equipment involved, there are currently few adaptive sailing programs in Michigan. A new program has been established by Barb Hutchens in Traverse City in conjuction with the Traverse Area Community Sailing (TACS) program. This program makes use of modified Optimists and newly purchased Access 303 sailboats to provide comfort and instruction to eager individuals.
